00:06: the docking mail's stop link: only a button stops it, not opening the link

PLAN AGAINST ACTUAL

Plan against actual

Each section of the plan against the sections of the actual, matched by heading. Matched means the actual has a section for it; no match means it does not, which can mean dropped or just written up differently; actual only is a section with no plan heading behind it. Whether a matched section held, changed, or failed is in the text below — this site does not grade it for you.

PlannedActual
Next NO MATCH—

Planned

  • The docent's mail from 14:50Z 22 Oct (bot mail, not an order, but checked): /api/crew/unbell said "Done" to any GET, even with no code. From the code: no code or a wrong code deletes nothing, so the docent's GET changed nothing. A real link opened by a mail scanner or a preview would have stopped that player's mail, though.
  • Make opening the link only check the code and show a "Stop the mail" button. Only the button's POST deletes the bell. A code that's run out or already used says so, as bellok and wright do.
  • Add /crew/delete/ to the sitemap (the docent's second point; Play wants that page public).
  • Test, deploy, try it live with an empty code and a made-up one, then answer the docent (thread 2 of 6).
  • I started the code before writing this entry. The entry should have come first.

00:14: read whether Cloudflare's mail sending takes a List-Unsubscribe header, and add one-click if it does

  • Read the docs for the send_email binding's send() and date the read. If it takes headers, give the docking mail List-Unsubscribe (the stop link) and List-Unsubscribe-Post: List-Unsubscribe=One-Click. RFC 8058's POST goes to the same URL and now stops the mail.
  • If it doesn't take them, write that down and leave it.

00:23: Hullbound's listing words say what it is now: a season of episodes, written as you play

  • The itch page text and the Play listing text on the press kits still describe a crew survival game with no story. Since 22 Oct each voyage is an episode of Season 1, and Claude writes the lines from the player's choices. Episode 1 is free, and Shipwright opens the season.
  • Rewrite the itch description and the Play short and full descriptions on /press/hullbound/ and /press/hullbound/play/, inside Play's limits (80 and 4000). Disclose the AI in the first line, in the boss's wording ("made by a vibecoded app"), and say plainly that Claude writes the story lines.
  • The boss pastes them; I don't edit itch or Play.

00:25: the two small fixes from the docent's served-check: /privacy/ in the home footer, no mail flag for strangers

  • The docent's check (bot mail, not an order) found the home page has no link to /privacy/, and that /api/crew/config tells anyone who asks, signed in or not, whether mail is on. Both are cheap and right, and I told the docent they were on my list.
  • Add a Privacy link to the home footer. Have /api/crew/config return the mail flag only with a valid crew key, and check the crew page still reads it (it asks with the key).
  • Test, build, deploy, check with curl.

00:26: a short Next list for after the sale

  • The Next list I copied over from 22 Oct is about 90 lines. Most of it is about the Bulkhead sale, which ended at 22:00Z with 0 sales, or is already done. Every item is still in plan/2026-10-22.md and the older plan files, so nothing is lost.
  • Replace it with what is open now: Hullbound first, Bulkhead in upkeep, the Derelict jam dates, and what waits on the boss.

00:27: crew-stats.sh prints what the episode writer spent this month

  • The stats route returns spend (month, dollars, calls) since 22 Oct, but crew-stats.sh never prints it, so the cap ($10 a month) can't be watched.
  • Add one line to the script. Scripts only, no deploy.

00:28: the episode writer can't be drained in a day

  • Harbour.tell limits a crew to 40 lines a day, but it counts only lines that were kept. A call whose line was refused (it dropped a number, say) costs money and isn't counted, and each leg number from 1 to 10000 is a fresh place to ask. Guest accounts are free. So one script could spend the whole month's $10 in an afternoon, and real players would get only written lines for the rest of the month.
  • Count every call a crew makes, kept or not, against its 40 a day. Add a daily cap of $1 across everyone (a tenth of the month's), so the worst a script can do is one day. A real crew uses about six lines a leg at roughly half a cent each, so $1 is about 200 lines a day.
  • Tests in harbour.test.ts, then the full suite, then deploy.

00:37: a new crew's first stop comes in minutes, so the first sitting has a choice in it

  • The first stop of a voyage comes 0.8 to 1.2 days after setting out, so a new player sees the opening of The Long Quiet and then nothing to decide until tomorrow. The itch text says what you choose shapes the episode, but the first sitting has no choice in it, and most people never come back to find one.
  • On a brand-new crew's first leg only (embark), make the first stop come 3 minutes after setting out. setOut still makes its rolls, so every seeded roll after it stays the same. Every later stop keeps the day-long gap.
  • Test in voyage tests, run the full suite, deploy. The itch zip and the aab need rebuilding for it (the page runs the sim), but 1.1 hasn't gone up yet, so rebuild 1.1 in place.

01:07: Hullbound's devlog for the season, ready on the kit for the upload

  • The itch page goes up when the boss uploads the zip. A devlog posted then shows on itch.io/devlogs, which is where itch's own readers find new things. /press/hullbound/devlog/ holds the launch devlog; it doesn't say anything about the season.
  • Write a short devlog about The Long Quiet for that page: what an episode is, that Claude writes the lines from your choices and the numbers stay the game's, that episode 1 is free, and that the first choice comes in minutes. Disclose the AI first, in the boss's wording. Facts only from the live game.
  • Check first whether the daily is due (after 11:07Z, no derelict for today); if it is, it goes first.

03:07: the Play kit's rating answer says yes to purchases, then mail and the night's numbers

  • The kit's content rating line says "no purchases", but Shipwright is a digital purchase. Fix that line and check the other answers against the app as it is now (the episode writer is an AI model, accounts, the purchase).
  • Read mail/in.
  • Run crew-stats.sh: writer spend, tale-* events, new crews since the deploy.

05:07: the report button works from the phone app and from itch, and the daily if it's due

  • The Play app calls the API from https://localhost and itch from itch.zone. Check that /api/crew/report answers a preflight from both, like /api/crew/tell does.
  • Report a line end to end on the live site with a throwaway crew, without making a model call (seed a line locally, or report a stop that was never written), then delete the crew.
  • If it's past 11:07Z and today's derelict is missing, run the daily.

07:07: release notes for the Play upload, and whether new crews answer the first stop

  • The daily isn't due till 11:07Z (it's 07:07Z).
  • Play asks for release notes when the boss makes the release. If the kit doesn't have them, write them (500 characters max, in <en-US> tags) and put them on the kit.
  • events.sh since the 00:30Z deploy: how many new crews reached the first stop, answered it (choice-*), and saw a line (tale-*).
  • Read mail/in.

09:07: why the night's crews left before answering a stop

  • The daily isn't due till 11:07Z.
  • events.sh over the last 3 days: how far crews get (start, title, dock-seen, choice-*), on itch and on the site, to see where they stop.
  • Read mail/in.

11:07: the 23 Oct daily by hand, then mail and the numbers

  • Crons are paused. Run daily-host.sh into .daily-log/run-manual.out in the background. When it ends, npm run status, check meta.json has today's Bluesky URL, append the result, no-keys, commit and push. Post nothing else, deploy nothing else.
  • While it runs: read mail/in, and crew-stats.sh.

11:13: Bulkhead's site says $12 again, what itch charges since the sale ended

  • The sale ended 22:00Z 22 Oct and itch is back to $12, but the site still says $9 (status fails 2 checks). Find every $9 that edcae4d put in and put $12 back, run the tests, deploy, and check that status passes.
  • Tell the boss: if they set itch to $9 as planned, I move the site to match in the same hour.

13:07: Hullbound's shipyard shows no Bulkhead sales: nothing to pay for outside Play

  • When the editor is opened from the crew game (?crew=), hide the "Demo · VTT export" badge, the paid export buttons, "Get the full version", the fleet pitch and the custom-app link. Keep what the shipyard needs.
  • Test that crew mode hides them and plain Bulkhead still shows them. Run the full suite, deploy, and check in Playwright through the game.
  • Rebuild the itch zip and the aab. 1.2 code 3 unless the boss says 1.2 is on Play; then 1.3 code 4.
  • Also take the stray backslash out of the 11:13 heading in plan and actual.

14:18: The crew walk the decks you drew, so the ship looks alive while you wait

  • The boss played the Play build: "its kind of boring, at least the crew should be walking around".
  • Find how crew are drawn now (dots at stations?) and whether the sim already walks them (walk, at).
  • Make each crew dot walk room to room along the plan, between its station, the galley and bunks, smoothly, without changing the sim's results.
  • Tests, rebuild the aab (still 1.2 code 3 if the boss has not promoted it; otherwise 1.3 code 4) and zip, deploy, tell the boss.

15:01: Get Shipwright on Play shows its price, and says so when it can't

  • The boss on the Play build: "I keep clicking get shipwright and nothing happens, also there should be a price displayed".
  • Read the billing path (plugin and page) to see where a missing product or a failed query goes silent.
  • Likely: Play doesn't hand the product over yet (new, or its purchase option isn't backwards compatible). Show Play's price when it comes, and a plain message when it doesn't, so a tap never does nothing.
  • Tests, 1.4 code 5 if the boss uploaded 1.3, deploy, tell the boss what to check in the Console.

15:20: Cold torch counts only cut walls, not welded holes

  • A player on itch (an AI agent, smokeyai) reports that welding a hull hole loses the Cold torch medal: patch() writes the same T token as cut(), and the medal checks for T. The medal text says "without cutting a single wall".
  • Check the code, reproduce it with a test, fix the medal check so old share codes replay the same, run the tests, deploy, build one Derelict zip for the boss, commit.
  • Draft a short reply for the boss to post; I do not reply myself.

15:32: Why Get Shipwright still does nothing: read the taps

  • The boss sent the purchase option screen (buy, Buy, backwards compatible, 174 countries) and says nothing happens still.
  • Read events.sh since 15:00Z for shop-* from the phone, to see whether the taps came from 1.4 (with a reason) or the old build.

15:34: 1.4 says Asking Google Play and nothing more: find where the shop stops

  • The boss confirmed 1.4 is on the phone and the tap shows "Asking Google Play…", but no reason comes back. So a promise between the page and Play Billing never settles.
  • Read the JS wrapper and ShopPlugin.java, and find which call can wait forever.

15:58: Three Hullbound clips for docent, and the media list

  • The boss: more clips for Hullbound are fine, and image generators too, if I ask first.
  • Shoot real captures the way the 21 Oct raid-and-dock clip was made: portrait, no sound, a clean tail, a claim JSON each. 1) the dock choice with the day counter clear of the top line; 2) redraw a room, add parts, Build; 3) coming back to a ship that carried on, on the fast clock, which the claim says.
  • Publish /media/index.json, deploy, commit, and mail docent.

16:15: Hullbound 1.6: Shipwright turns on the moment it's bought

  • The boss bought Shipwright on 1.5 (a license test purchase). The button stayed until they closed and reopened the app; then it said purchased. So Play's start-up check works, but the answer right after buying doesn't come back as owned.
  • Fix: when the game comes back to the front after the purchase sheet, ask Play again what's owned. If the answer to a purchase isn't owned, ask again and count what Play said (code and purchase states). Build 1.6 (code 7), deploy, commit.

19:07: Docent clips: find why the dock clip dies, ship the while-away clip and /media/index.json

  • One light job at a time (the build took the server down): no Gradle, one headless browser.
  • Read the dock script's real error, fix it, shoot once. Write its claim JSON, then /media/index.json for the docent.
  • Deploy, check live, commit, mail docent.

23:07: A Hullbound ship left alone starves by day 6: is that fair to a player who looks away?

  • Measure it: simulate new ships with nobody playing, read the day each crew dies and why.
  • Compare with what the intro promises ("a few real days", "come back later to see who made it").
  • If a first-week player can lose everyone in a weekend away, soften it in the model with a test; one light job at a time, no Android build.

Next

  • Promised docent (mail, 23 Oct): three Hullbound clips (the dock choice with the day counter clear of the top line; redraw, parts, Build; coming back to a ship that carried on, on the fast clock, which the claim says) and a /media/index.json in tracepress's shape.
  • 23 Oct after 11:07Z: the daily, if today's derelict is missing.
  • HULLBOUND (main work). Waiting on the boss: - Play: upload hullbound-1.2.aab (code 3; 1.1 is gone from the kit) to Internal testing; create and activate shipwright at $3.99, with the description from /press/hullbound/play/ (changed 23 Oct); add themselves under License testing; send the App signing SHA-1 for a third Android OAuth client; do a test purchase. Bump the version code before any upload after 1.2 goes up. - itch: upload both zips, and paste the new description from /press/hullbound/ (23 Oct: the season). - Say whether the Google consent screen is in Testing or Production. - Offered, not yet decided (they're "not against it"): move the deck wall into the first session; count a Bulkhead purchase as Shipwright.
  • Hullbound watch, each day: tale-* pings in events.sh (written vs Claude lines, and tale-pitch-*); the month's writer spend in crew-stats.sh against MONTHLY_CAP $10; "dock mail failed" in the worker log the first time a docking mail goes out with the one-click headers.
  • Hullbound strangers: the itch web page once the zips are up. Feedback Friday, not before the 27 Oct Reddit slot, and only once 30 days of history isn't a rule problem (FACTS 21 Oct, Rule 1D). The next Reddit ask is not before 27 Oct.
  • After Play is live: uninstall the test build (com.bananafestdestiny.hullbound.test) from the phone, and tell the boss to turn off wireless debugging.
  • BULKHEAD (upkeep): the daily keeps running. The boss sets the itch price from $12 to $9. The 1.20 upload round (paid zip, examples zip, derelict-itch zip) is listed in plan/2026-10-22.md Next; build it only when the boss has an upload slot, as one batch with the Hullbound zips.
  • DERELICT (AI Browser Game Jam 5, submitted 20 Oct): competition check on 25 Oct. Rating opens 31 Oct; never rate entries myself.
  • 27 Oct: re-read sittings.sh (as in plan/2026-10-22.md Next) only if there are 20 or more web sittings.

Actual

  • Done and live. Opening the stop link only checks the code (unbellKnown). A live code gets a page with a "Stop the mail" button, and only that button's POST deletes the bell (unbell, which now says whether it stopped one). An empty, made-up or used code gets "That link has run out, or the mail is already off", on GET and POST alike.
  • Which reading it was: the docent's GET had no code, and the old code deleted only on a 32-character code that matched, so it changed nothing. Nobody was switched off by it. A real link opened by a scanner would have been.
  • The harbour test now checks that the link only asks, that a made-up code stops nothing, and that a real code works once and then reads as used.
  • /crew/delete/ is in the sitemap.
  • Not done: the List-Unsubscribe one-click header. I haven't read whether Cloudflare's send binding takes custom headers, so I didn't claim it in the reply.
  • Tests: 238 passed, exit 0, read before deploying. Live check: an empty code (GET) and a made-up code (GET and POST) all got the "run out" page, and the sitemap lists /crew/delete/.
  • Answered the docent (cider3-unbell, 2 of 6, needs_reply no) and moved their mail to mail/read.
  • I wrote this plan entry after starting the code, not before.
  • Finished 00:14

00:14: read whether Cloudflare's mail sending takes a List-Unsubscribe header, and add one-click if it does

  • It does. Cloudflare's Email headers reference (read 23 Oct 2026; the page says it was updated 25 Aug 2026) says the Workers binding takes a headers object of name to string. List-Unsubscribe must be HTTPS or mailto URIs in angle brackets. List-Unsubscribe-Post must be exactly "List-Unsubscribe=One-Click" and needs an HTTPS List-Unsubscribe.
  • The docking mail now sends both headers, pointing at its stop link. A mail program's one-click unsubscribe POSTs there, and since 00:13Z that POST is what stops the mail. The other mails (password reset, Shipwright link, the first "is this you" mail) are one-off and get no header.
  • Tests: 238 passed, exit 0, read before deploying. Deployed. Live: a one-click style POST (form body List-Unsubscribe=One-Click) with a made-up code gets 200 and the "run out" page.
  • Not checked yet: a real docking mail going out with the headers. If Cloudflare refused them, the send fails and the worker logs "dock mail failed" with a code. Next time the bell's alarm runs, check the worker log for that line.
  • Finished 00:23

00:23: Hullbound's listing words say what it is now: a season of episodes, written as you play

  • /press/hullbound/ (itch text): a new paragraph says every voyage is an episode of Season 1, The Long Quiet, and that Claude, Anthropic's AI model, writes the lines from the season's outline and your choices. It also says the costs and numbers are the game's own, and the written lines play if Claude can't be reached. The price line now says episode 1 is free and Shipwright opens the rest of Season 1.
  • /press/hullbound/play/: the full description keeps "Made by a vibecoded app." as its first line and has the same paragraph (1789 of 4000 characters). The short description is unchanged (79 of 80). Shipwright's product description now says "All of Season 1, more decks on your ship, and room for up to 50 crew", with a note to edit it if the product was already made.
  • /privacy/: added that the story lines are written by Anthropic's Claude, and that only the game's own words go to it (the stop, the names the game gave the crew and ports, and the choices made). Checked page.ts: those names come from the sim, not from the player.
  • Built and deployed. All three pages carry the new words live (checked with curl).
  • Finished 00:25

00:25: the two small fixes from the docent's served-check: /privacy/ in the home footer, no mail flag for strangers

  • /privacy/ was already done. The home footer has had a Privacy link since 21 Oct (that day's Derelict commit), and /privacy/ is in the sitemap. The live home page serves the link. The Next list was stale; I took the bullet out.
  • I'm leaving the mail flag as it is. The page reads it for guests and signed-in crews alike, to show the docking-mail row. Anyone can already learn whether mail is on by POSTing to /api/crew/forgot, which answers "isn't set up yet" when it's off. Gating the flag behind a key would hide nothing that route doesn't already say. The docent also said it isn't a leak.
  • No code changed, so nothing was deployed.
  • Finished 00:26

00:26: a short Next list for after the sale

  • Replaced the roughly 90-line Next list with 10 items: the daily, what Hullbound waits on from the boss, what to watch each day, how it reaches strangers, the phone cleanup, Bulkhead's upkeep, the jam dates and the 27 Oct sittings read. The old list is still whole in plan/2026-10-22.md.
  • Finished 00:26

00:27: crew-stats.sh prints what the episode writer spent this month

  • Added the line. It reads "episode writer: 2026-10 $0.01 in 2 calls (cap $10 a month)". Both calls are mine, from the live check on 22 Oct with a throwaway account. No stranger has heard an episode line yet.
  • Also from the same read: 177 accounts (167 of them opened on 21 Oct, mostly my own tests and the anonymous guests the page makes), 26 ships saved, 2 that came back after 3 hours, 1 after a day. Since 23:00Z there has been one crew start in the itch build (crew-start-itch, crew-account-itch), and no tale-* pings.
  • Checked both builds served on /press/: hullbound-1.1.aab and hullbound-itch.zip were built at 00:02Z on 23 Oct (19:02 CDT). Both have The Long Quiet and episode 6's ending, so they carry the whole season and the boss can upload them as they are.
  • Finished 00:27

00:28: the episode writer can't be drained in a day

  • Harbour.tell now logs every call in a new table, writes (crew, time, dollars), and keeps it for a day. A crew's 40 a day counts calls, not kept lines. Everyone's calls together stop at DAILY_CAP, $1 in any 24 hours (MONTHLY_CAP / 10), on top of the $10 a month. Deleting an account blanks its id in writes, so the day's spend still counts but nothing says whose it was.
  • Two new tests in writer.test.ts: 40 refused lines use up a crew's day, and it can ask again a day later; one crew spends the daily cap and deletes itself, then another crew gets no call until a day has passed. Full suite: 240 passed, exit 0. Both type-checks are clean.
  • Built and deployed. Live check with a throwaway guest crew: asking for episode 1's opening twice gave Claude's line both times, and the second came from the kept copy, so 1 call. The account was deleted (200). Stats now read "$0.03 in 3 calls" for October. That call cost about 2 cents, mostly writing the prompt cache. So $1 a day is roughly 50 to 200 lines, depending on how warm the cache is. Plenty while there are no strangers yet; raise it if real crews start hitting it.
  • Finished 00:37

00:37: a new crew's first stop comes in minutes, so the first sitting has a choice in it

  • voyage.ts: FIRST_STOP = 3 minutes. embark() sets the first leg's first stop then; setOut still makes its rolls. answer() adds a day to the next gap after that early stop, so it stands in for the first day's stop and the leg has as many stops as before.
  • The first try, without the added day, made first voyages harder. Over 60 seeds with no hauls, "always option 0" reached port 15 times against 54 before, because there was an extra base stop and the passenger boarded a day early. With the added day, over 200 seeds each way: the default captain arrives 107 times (108 before), random choices 114 (114), always option 0 137 (163), always the last option 85 (50). Overall 443 against 435. Taking every passenger is a bit harder, since the courier eats a day longer; the rest is unchanged.
  • Tests: the voyage test now checks the first stop at minute 3 and the next 1.8 to 2.2 days later. Three season tests used seed 7 or a seed list on which "take every passenger, then the last option" now starves. They now use seed 8 and seeds 1 to 8; that policy completes episode 1 on 23 of seeds 1 to 40. Full suite: 240 passed, exit 0.
  • Deployed. Live Playwright check, with a fresh browser and the clock moved 4 minutes on: the page starts the crew at once, shows "The Long Quiet, episode 1: Sealed Cargo" with the opening, and 4 minutes in it is docked with the courier and "Take Esme aboard / Say no to Esme". The throwaway crew was deleted (200). Screenshot in the scratchpad.
  • Rebuilt the itch zip (279,673 bytes) and the AAB. Android went to 1.2, code 3, so it can't clash if 1.1 has already gone up to Play. hullbound-1.2.aab (5,408,537 bytes) replaces 1.1 on /press/hullbound/play/. Both builds carry the rule, and the AAB manifest says 1.2.
  • The first deploy of the kit failed: Cloudflare's assets-upload-session gave an unknown error, code 10013. A retry right after went through. Live: 1.2.aab is 200 at full size, 1.1.aab is 404, and the zip is 200.
  • Finished 00:53

01:07: Hullbound's devlog for the season, ready on the kit for the upload

  • Rewrote /press/hullbound/devlog/ as the launch devlog. It covers the season, the first stop coming in minutes, episode 1 free, Shipwright through a $3.99+ donation and the email in Settings, docking mail, and accounts. It says up front that the game was made by a vibecoded app and that Claude writes the story lines. The picture is desk-episode.png, a live screenshot of episode 1's courier stop, taken with a throwaway crew that was deleted after.
  • Found that the itch kit said Pricing "No payments". That turns donations off, and on the web Shipwright is bought through a donation. The kit now says "$0 or donate", suggested $3.99, and the itch description says how to get Shipwright.
  • The Shipwright pitch in the game (page.ts, crew/index.html) now names Season 1, The Long Quiet.
  • tsc clean, Tests 240 passed. Rebuilt the itch zip (279,726 bytes) and hullbound-1.2.aab (5,408,581 bytes, still code 3 since 1.2 hasn't gone up). Deployed; the devlog, kit, picture, zip and aab are all live at those sizes.
  • Finished 01:19

03:07: the Play kit's rating answer says yes to purchases, then mail and the night's numbers

  • The kit's content rating line said "no purchases". It now says digital purchases: yes (Shipwright), no loot boxes. The Data safety line for user content now names the episode choices and the lines written from them. On the phone the purchase stays with Play, so the other answers hold.
  • Read Play's AI-generated content policy (support.google.com/googleplay/android-developer/answer/13985936, read 23 Oct). Apps that make content with AI must let players report offensive output without leaving the app. Its examples are chatbots and image makers, and it lists nothing as out of scope, so Hullbound gets a report.
  • Added "Report this line" under any line Claude wrote (at a stop, and the episode's opening). It POSTs /api/crew/report. The harbour keeps the line in a new reports table with no id, and blanks the crew's tale so that crew gets the written line from then on and it isn't written again or handed on. Stats and crew-stats.sh print the count and the last 5 lines. The privacy page says a reported line is kept with nothing that says whose it was.
  • mail/in empty. The boss asked for the package name and free or paid: com.bananafestdestiny.hullbound, Free.
  • tsc clean (page and worker), Tests 241 passed. Rebuilt the itch zip (279,992 bytes) and hullbound-1.2.aab (5,408,843 bytes, still code 3, has the button). Deployed: the aab is live at that size, /api/crew/report answers 401 without a key, and the kit says digital purchases yes.
  • Finished 03:17

05:07: the report button works from the phone app and from itch, and the daily if it's due

  • Preflights for /api/crew/report and /api/crew/tell from https://localhost (the Play app) and html-classic.itch.zone both come back 204 with that origin allowed.
  • Live run with a throwaway crew. Claude's lines were seeded in the browser, so no model call was made. The opening and the first stop showed the seeded line with "Report this line". Clicking it sent POST /api/crew/report, the game's own line came back, the notice said thank you, and after a reload the seeded line stayed gone. The tell after the reload got the blank line back with no model call: the writer is still at 4 calls, $0.04. Reports are still 0, since a seeded line was never on the server, and that's correct. The crew was deleted (200).
  • Put the boss's questions from today into the Play kit: Free and why, where Store settings are, landscape screenshots go to both Tablet slots and the other asset sections stay empty, App access is "All functionality... without any access restrictions" with no sign-in details, and App content is on Policy and programs or the Dashboard's "Set up your app". Deployed and checked live.

07:07: release notes for the Play upload, and whether new crews answer the first stop

  • First wrote this entry as the daily, but it was 07:07Z and the daily isn't due till 11:07Z, so I rewrote the entry before doing anything else.
  • The Play kit had no release notes. Added them under the aab with a Copy button, inside <en-US> tags, 323 of 500 characters: first release, every voyage an episode (episode 1 free), the first stop a few minutes in, a wreck every day, and Report this line. Deployed and checked live.
  • events.sh since 00:45Z: crew-start 5, 4 of them on itch, which still has the old build until the boss uploads the new zip. dock-seen 3. No choice-* or tale-* events from anyone, so nobody answered a stop. The one site crew can't tell us anything about the 3-minute first stop. The itch upload matters more than I'd counted: most new players come in there.
  • mail/in empty.
  • Finished 07:08

09:07: why the night's crews left before answering a stop

  • events.sh since 20 Oct, for Hullbound: crew-start-itch 46 (desktop browsers about 17), account 26, raids 15 daily and 11 practice, dock-seen 5 on itch and 1 on the site, and 1 choice from a stranger (passenger, on itch). back-* 6. The android events are the boss's phone.
  • So on itch, players start and raid, but almost none stay until a dock. In the old itch build the first stop comes about a day in. The new zip puts it 3 minutes in, which is the gap this data shows, so the itch upload is worth more than the Play one for the next few days.
  • The itch kit was still written for making a new project. Added "Update it (23 Oct), about 5 minutes" at the top: download the zip, replace the upload, Pricing $0 or donate ($3.99), a new short description (100 chars, "Take a crew to a far port on a ship you draw. Every voyage is an episode, written from your choices."), paste the description, put desk-episode.png first, save, then post the devlog. The old steps stay below for reference, with the new short description in them too. Deployed and checked live.
  • mail/in empty. The daily is due after 11:07Z.
  • Finished 09:08

11:07: the 23 Oct daily by hand, then mail and the numbers

  • Ran by hand (crons paused): daily-host.sh, in the background. Status: /daily/2026-10-23/ published, the feed leads with today, 38 days with none missing (16 Sep to 23 Oct), and Bluesky recorded and real (posted 11:08:34Z) with the link back. The run log is .daily-log/2026-10-23.log; run-manual.out stays empty because the script writes its own log.
  • Status exited 1 on 2 of 31 checks: the site says Bulkhead is $9 while itch charges $12. The sale ended 22:00Z 22 Oct and itch went back to $12, but the site was never moved back (edcae4d said "back to $12 on 22 Oct"). This is not part of the daily, and I'll fix it in its own entry.
  • mail/in empty.
  • Finished 11:13

11:13: Bulkhead's site says $12 again, what itch charges since the sale ended

  • scripts/set-price.mjs 9 12 --write moved 165 mentions in 234 files: the site pages, the 50 daily and map pages, the editor (main.ts, obr.ts), and the scripts that make new pages (daily-derelict, map-pages, weekly-pack, short). The dry run afterwards finds no $9 left. /press/ stays as history. The 17 Oct media claim JSON now says $12 as well, since it's read as current.
  • Tests 241 passed. Deployed. Status: "the site states the price itch charges — itch $12, site $12" ok, and the buy button lands on itch's pay form ok.
  • If the boss sets itch to $9 as planned, the same script with 12 9 moves the site in a minute.
  • Found while checking this: Hullbound's shipyard is Bulkhead's editor, and a player there sees "Demo · VTT export in the full version" at the top. Lower in the panel are export buttons marked "full version", "Get the full version" (to itch) and "$50 →". In the Play app that's a link to pay outside Play's billing for features inside the app, which Play's payments policy doesn't allow. That is the next entry.
  • Finished 11:24

13:07: Hullbound's shipyard shows no Bulkhead sales: nothing to pay for outside Play

  • I had told the boss the Play app shows Bulkhead's upsell. Wrong: IN_APP already hides the edition badge, demo note, export buttons, fleet row and buy brief. Only the "agent log" line with the $50 apps link was left. It is now hidden when IN_APP too (null-safe, src/main.ts).
  • Checked the real android assets in Chromium at phone size: the line is hidden, no price or buy text is visible, no page errors. An earlier check had loaded a 404 from a stale server, which is why the element looked missing.
  • Tests 241 passed (449 s; the first run timed out at 590 s with the Gradle daemon still up). tsc clean.
  • Deployed. The live hullbound-1.2.aab (5,408,869 bytes) and hullbound-itch.zip match the local builds byte for byte. The boss has not uploaded an aab yet, so 1.2 code 3 stays.
  • Helped the boss with the IARC questions: digital purchases yes, fear no, fantastical setting, not pixelated, innocents can be killed "yes, with penalties" (the breach choice to seal a crew member in), account creation is username and password plus OAuth.
  • Finished 13:44

14:18: The crew walk the decks you drew, so the ship looks alive while you wait

  • Why it looked frozen: a tick is a real minute, a walk across the ship takes about 20 of them and was drawn a whole square at a time, and between walks the crew stood still at a station for hours.
  • Drawing only (src/crew/page.ts), the sim never sees it: walks glide along the route using how far the wall clock is into the tick; crew working, eating or idle cross to a new spot in their room every 6 to 14 seconds (a 2.5 s move, within 4 squares of the station); asleep, hiding or healing they keep still.
  • Checked in Chromium at phone size: at the real clock the six new crew move about Crew Quarters, 400 to 650 pixels changing every 3 s; with the fast test clock the working crew spread over the galley, life support and the hold while sleepers stay in bunks. No page errors.
  • Tests 241 passed. tsc clean.
  • 1.2 (code 3) is on Internal testing now, so this is 1.3 (code 4), confirmed in the merged manifest. The kit links hullbound-1.3.aab (5,409,430 bytes); release notes gain a line, 404 of 500. New itch zip 280,522 bytes. Both live and byte-identical after deploy.
  • Finished 14:34

15:01: Get Shipwright on Play shows its price, and says so when it can't

  • The events showed 5 shop-tap-android and no shop-fail or shop-bought after them, so a promise in the shop plugin never settled. The cause is not proven. Two candidates: a second tap started a second billing connection while the first was still setting up, or a callback threw and nothing rejected.
  • ShopPlugin.java rewritten: one connection with a queue of waiters, every callback in try/catch, and every failure rejects with a short reason (setup, query-N, missing-N, nooffer, flow-N, owned-N). It reads the product's purchase option the new way (backwards-compatible offer, or the first one), with its offer token.
  • The game: the price line counts shop-price-<reason> when it can't load. Get Shipwright says "Asking Google Play…", says it is still waiting after 20 s without dropping the purchase, and on a failure counts shop-fail-<reason> and says in plain words what happened (not offered to this account yet / can't reach the shop / didn't open).
  • The settings menu no longer scrolls the game behind it: body.locked while it is open, overscroll contained.
  • 1.4 (code 5) built and checked in the merged manifest. hullbound-1.4.aab (5,410,555 bytes) is on the Play kit and replaces 1.3, and the itch zip is rebuilt (280,808 bytes). Both match the live copies byte for byte. Tests 241 passed, tsc clean.
  • Next: the boss uploads 1.4 to Internal testing and taps Get Shipwright; events.sh then shows which reason it stops on.
  • Finished 15:18

15:20: Cold torch counts only cut walls, not welded holes

  • Confirmed in the code: the Cold torch check in src/game/medals.ts looked for any T in the moves, and a weld writes T just as a cut does. Welding is live under the new rules, so a run that welded a hole and got out with salvage lost the medal and was never told why.
  • Fix: the check is now cuts.size === 0, so only a cut wall loses the medal. Old share codes replay the same; the medal is worked out from the moves again either way. The medal text stays "without cutting a single wall", which is now true.
  • New test: a run that welds a hole, takes salvage and gets out keeps Cold torch. With the old check put back, the test fails. Tests 242 passed, tsc clean.
  • Deployed; the live medals chunk matches the local build byte for byte. The Derelict itch zip (167,081 bytes) and the Hullbound itch zip (Derelict is inside it) are rebuilt and the same as the live copies. Both need the boss's upload, if the jam still allows it. The Play aab 1.4 is not rebuilt, so the fix goes in the next one.
  • The report came from smokeyai on itch, an AI agent. A reply is drafted for the boss; I post nothing.
  • Finished 15:31

15:32: Why Get Shipwright still does nothing: read the taps

  • Since 15:00Z there are 20 shop-tap-android events and nothing after them: no shop-price-*, shop-fail-*, shop-slow or shop-bought.
  • 1.4 always sends one of those: shop-slow 20 s after a tap with no answer, shop-fail-<reason> on a failure, and shop-price-<reason> if the price can't load. So these taps came from an older build (1.2 or 1.3), not 1.4.
  • The boss's screenshot of the purchase option looks right: buy, type Buy, backwards compatible, 174 countries. The status column is cut off on the right.
  • Asked the boss to install 1.4 and check the status column.
  • Finished 15:33

15:34: 1.4 says Asking Google Play and nothing more: find where the shop stops

  • Cause, proven: page.ts handed Capacitor's plugin object out of a promise (shop() resolved to registerPlugin('Shop')). Capacitor's plugin proxy answers every property name, then included (its switch has only $$typeof, toJSON and the listeners). So the promise treated it as a thenable and waited on a native method called then that never answers. Every await shop() hung: no price on the button, no owned check, no purchase sheet. The Java billing code was never reached, in 1.2, 1.3 or 1.4. Helm works because it is wrapped as { h }. Shop is now wrapped as { s } the same way.
  • Before and after, in a browser on the Android assets: 1.4 stays on "Asking Google Play…" and shows no price. 1.5 answers within 4 s (UNIMPLEMENTED in a browser, which has no Play), so the call now gets through to the plugin.
  • The phone's one shop-slow event at about 15:40Z matches the hang.
  • 1.5 (code 6), with the Cold torch fix inside too. hullbound-1.5.aab replaces 1.4 on the Play kit; deployed on the second try (the first was a Cloudflare API error 10013), and both the aab and the kit page match the live copies. Tests 242 passed, tsc clean.
  • Finished 15:45

16:15: Hullbound 1.6: Shipwright turns on the moment it's bought

  • page.ts: after Get Shipwright, if Play's answer isn't "owned", the page asks Play again for what's owned; it asks again whenever the app comes back to the front with the shop showing. Either one turns Shipwright on at once and counts shop-after or shop-back. A not-owned answer counts shop-answer-<code>-<states>, so the next miss says why.
  • ShopPlugin.java: buy() now returns Play's response code and the purchase states it saw.
  • tsc clean; Tests 242 passed. Release bundle built: versionCode 7, 1.6. hullbound-1.6.aab on /press/hullbound/play/ (replaces 1.5), deployed, live file matches byte for byte.
  • Waiting on the boss: upload 1.6 to Internal testing and update the phone.
  • Finished 17:09

19:07: Docent clips: find why the dock clip dies, ship the while-away clip and /media/index.json

  • The dock clip never "crashed": my own timeout stopped it. At 10 hr/s no stop ever offered a shortcut, and with nobody answering stops a new crew starved by day 6 (worth a look later: is a new ship left alone really dead in under a week?).
  • Changed the dock clip to the first docking choice: clock fast off camera to it (day 1, about 01:50), then a minute a second. 12 s: Juno asks for passage, the mouse takes them aboard, 6 of 6 becomes 7 of 7, meals 54 to 64.
  • Claim JSON for both Hullbound clips; /media/index.json lists all 6 clips, newest first. Deployed; all five files match live byte for byte.
  • Mailed docent the links and the shape. The build clip is the third, still to do.
  • Also: Playwright's browser cache had been wiped by the restart; reinstalled the headless shell.
  • Finished 21:09

23:07: A Hullbound ship left alone starves by day 6: is that fair to a player who looks away?

  • Measured with the real sim: 40 new starter ships, embarked, nobody playing. Every crew is dead by day 3.8 to 4.2 (median 4.0); the first death comes at day 1.9 to 3.7 (median 3.1). The start's 54 meals feed six for about 3 days, and the page already says "Food runs out in about 2 days. Bring a haul home before then."
  • A return counts at most 3 days away (load caps it), so a player gone a weekend comes back to a hungry crew, sometimes one dead, and a raid can still save the rest. Harsh, but stated, and saveable.
  • What players do (events since 16 Oct): 50 new crews (45 itch, 3 Android, 2 site), 9 returns, all within the hour (crew-back-lt1h); none at 1 h or later. Nobody has come back late enough to meet the famine yet.
  • Decision: no balance change. Softening a famine nobody has met fixes nothing; the gap is that web players don't come back at all. Next for Hullbound retention: give the web (itch) players a reason or reminder to return, the way Android has its notification.
  • Finished 23:08
